5 of the Weirdest Trophies and Awards in Existence

Who doesn’t like to receive an award? From trophies to plaques to gift cards, people love to feel accomplished and appreciated. However, some awards around the world are so bizarre that you would be shocked by their existence. Here are 5 of the weirdest awards out there! 

1. Darwin Awards 

The Darwin Awards, named after Charles Darwin, is given to those who pass away in the most idiotic ways. The idea of the award is that the recipients earn it because they made the ultimate sacrifice to “protect the gene pool.” This concept even landed its way into a movie entitled The Darwin Awards in 2006.  

2. Ig Nobel Prize 

Established by the Annals of Improbable Research Study magazine in 1991, this award is presented to seemingly bizarre, laughable inventions. There are 10 categories of this award when it is presented at Harvard University in the Sanders Theater. So far, the only person who has won both the Nobel Prize and the Ig Nobel prize is Sir Andre Geim. 

3. Golden Collar Awards 

A Golden Collar Award is like an Academy Award, but for dogs. The Golden Collar Awards were established by the Dog News Daily website in 2012 to recognize talented canine actors. There are five categories of this award, where the winners are presented with a trophy of an Italian leather collar embellished with Swarovski crystals.  

4. Diagram Prize 

This prize is a humorous literary award that was established in 1978 and is presented every year to the book with the oddest title. A few books that have received the Diagram Prize include Living with Crazy Buttocks, Cooking with Poo, Oral Sadism and the Vegetarian Personality, The Joy of Chickens, and Bombproof Your Horse. Each year, the winner is chosen through public voting on The Bookseller website.  

5. Big Brother Awards 

This award is named after the character Big Brother from the famous George Orwell novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. Organizations, people, and authorities who commit activities that threaten the personal privacy of others receive the Big Brother award. This award exists to bring attention to the increase in privacy violations by the authorities.
