3 Tips on Wording an Engraved Plaque

When it comes to creating any sort of decoration, display, or memento that contains words and phrases, you want to make sure you get it right! An engraved plaque, for example, is a great way to honor a coach, boss, teammate, or co-worker, but oftentimes, making a final decision on the wording can be daunting. After all, the recipient very well may keep the plaque for the rest of their life! To make the process of purchasing your next plaque a bit less stressful, here are some tips on choosing the wording:

  1. Show that you’ve thought about it.

First things first, you want the wording on the plaque to show that you put thought and effort into the occasion. This does not have to be too hard or complicated. Simply think about what it is you are truly trying to commemorate, as well as why the accomplishment matters to the recipient. Your effort will show through!

  1. Keep the phrases simple.

You want to avoid using words and phrases that are extra formal and flowery, as these will likely make the message sound insincere and maybe even confusing. Ideally, you need to have a balance between making the wording sound official and well thought out, yet still genuine, sincere, and personal.

This optimal balance will depend on the setting of your plaque presentation. A banquet for a children’s sports team elicits more informality than a corporate awards ceremony at a fancy venue.

  1. Proofread, Proofread, Proofread

The last and probably BEST piece of advice we would like to give you is to proofread, proofread…and then proofread again! We would hate for you to plan a wonderfully worded plaque, only to notice a spelling error in the recipient’s name on the night of the awards ceremony.

Take these tips to heart, and you will surely have a memorable plaque that truly communicates your message!
